Classic Yachts at Antigua
Schooner Grand Nellie wins Vintage Class B
ANTIGUA — Schooner Grand Nellie won the Nicholson Caribbean Yacht Sales Trophy for First Place in Schooner Class at this year's Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. She also received the trophy for First Place in Vintage Class B.
The races, all on the south side of Antigua, had fresh Atlantic wind and wave conditions, with 18-25 knots of breeze and 4-6 foot swells. Captain Jeff Troeltzsch kept his crew and guests focused and enthusiastic, while maintaining an average speed of nine knots. There were over 40 of the world's most beautiful, classic yachts participating in what the organizers reminded everyone was a "gentleman's race."
Hosted by the Antigua Yacht Club, dockage was provided by sponsors at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina. According to one observer, the buzz among the participants constantly came back to the beauty and majesty of extremely well-maintained and tremendously well-sailed yachts.
